Christantus Uche Sparks Straightforward Crystal Palace Win at Shelbourne.

Despite embarking on their maiden European campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without key players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding win that virtually guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.

A further three points in their upcoming match against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to secure direct entry to the knockout stages, especially following a prior setback against Strasbourg.

Squad Members Seize the Opportunity

This match offered a chance for several Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning since arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, finding the net for the second game in match.

The Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season proved no match even for a mostly second-string Palace outfit. The visitors were further depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg injuries.

Dominance Established from the Start

In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.

Youngster Adam Wharton went close soon after, fizzing a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official waved away the appeals.

Ex-Arsenal man did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had hit the post.

The home side were clinging on for dear life. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Game

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.

Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also missed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still room for improvement in his game.

A solitary worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
